Trouble hearing on the telephone

My Mom recently upgraded with newer hearing aids. Now she is having trouble hearing over the telephone. She has to remove the hearing aid to hear. She is able to hear with them in when she uses her cell phone but not with her landline. She rarely uses her cell phone.
Anyone have a suggestion about the best phone for her that plugs into the wall?

Ho Graylin, It may or may not be more than a simple adjustment to the hearing aids depending on when the last audiology exam was your mom may need another test and regular cleaning of hearing aids is recommended. . With my hearing loss currently at 60% and declining rapidly, I had to get a specialized phone with Captions called the CapTel phone. I have tried using the regular Speakerphone and it is more difficult with the incoming caller's voice less focused than it would be using the handset.
I recommend a visit to your local Deaf Services Center to look into the possibility of a phone that may likely assist your mom. They have many to choose from and will work with her to find one best suited for her current hearing loss. The Phones and other available technology are Free. They loan them both short term and long term.
    Best wishes to you both

Wow, thanks for the info. So fr her hearing aids and the new pphone are working out. But I will remember your suggestions if future hearing aids or phone have a problem.
She did get new hearing aids a few months ago and one of them didn't seem to be working as well as the other. Her audiologist looked at them, found something misadjusted and fixed it. She claims she is hearing much better. However she still can tune us all out at times. :)

Most modern hearing aids have a telephone pickup module (T Coiil) to help hear on the phone. Has she checked out this problem with her audioliogist? If you guys her lucky, a simple Hearing Aid adjustment might solve the problem.

If not, I agree with colobuffgirl. A speaker phone might do the trick.

    Good Luck.

Thanks for the info. I think she had spoken with her audiologist. He may have suggested a speaker phone. So far the phone she uses that my sister found seems to be working out.

Thanks for all the responses There are so many different problems with phones based on the person's hearing difficulties.
My sister found a phone for Mom that seems to be working out. I haven't checked to see what brand and model it is But she is able to hear people over it much easier.

My mom has the same issue, only reversed. She can hear on the land line, but not on cell phones. We tried several brands of phones until we found the landline phone that she could hear from. You may have to do some test runs and return the products that don't work. Not a fun process, but she is the only one who can know. We found that a corded phone was the only one that was clear enough for my mom's type of hearing loss. You may want to try that. Cordless phones are certainly more convenient, but it's a small price to pay for being able to have an actual conversation. Best of luck on your search.

Maybe there's a speaker phone she can use. You can get light flashers so you see when the phone rings. I use a speaker phone all the time.

Does your community have a hearing and speech center? They may have referrals for your Mom's situation. Has she considered a TTY machine? If she has a computer, AOL Instant Messenger offers a "relay" service for phone calls in which operators will receive or make calls by voice and type to the AIM messenger program. It's a free service.

Does Mom have a cell phone? There are also web services that can translate emails to text and texts to emails. Do a google search.

There is a program from the Fed Gov offering free cell phones to those in need. The 250 minutes a month plan includes voice mail and texting. It's definitely something to look into for the qualifications.
